A shout out to great doctors.

Sun May 31, 2009, 1:27 AM
Going through some hard stuff with my illness lately I am in so much pain it's really hard to communicate exactly where my mind is. These images I take are the only thing keeping me sane to be honest.

My doctor upped my opiate dosage to "Dr. House" type levels. I asked him: "Will I become addicted?" He just looks at me and says "At this point you just gotta do what you gotta do..."

That's the one thing going for me right now, I have two doctors that really rock - one is an Princeton Grad - a real straight shooter hard nose guy who has always been on top of things with me. He's taken my phone calls at midnight, kept me out of the ER a few times, once by showing up at his clinic at 6am so he could treat me there and save me a day of misery in a line at the hospital. He also found the right meds to save my eyes so I could keep doing this photography stuff.

The other Doc is this tiny little red headed lady who takes care of all the internal crap that goes on with my disease, heart, lungs, kidney's et. She saved my life once and managed to get me into the ICU at the hospital without having to go through the normal ambulance ride / ER process. She is very kind to me... always spends a little extra time with me and is always passing me free meds to keep me from going completely broke. (My medical bills run around $20k per year)

There is quite a bit of misery I have to go through and most of the time I hear about how terrible doctors are, how uncaring, et. I count myself fortunate that I have the doctors that I do - good doctors can make a bad situation bearable.

I tell you - if I was born again into this world as a healthy person I would be a doctor. Is there a better thing to do with your life?

Damn, I really feel for you!! I'm really sorry you're going through this misery, if it was me, I'd much rather ask God to end it lol (would never kill myself though).

I hope that there's a miracle waiting at your door for you!

Just keep the faith!

Yes, in your case, being a photographer.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you my friend. Hope you'll feel much better by the time you read this.

Thank you! I don't think "better" is much in the cards for me anymore but I will try to be as optimistic as I can and happy with "not worse".

Hey, I'm a reasonable guy. But I've just experienced some very unreasonable things. (Jack Burton)

to be honest, artists such as ourselves can affect people in ways doctors can't, and we can do just as much! Our work can pull some people out of a slump, or seem to express the way others feel when they just can't find the words! You can feel just as proud as if you were a doctor in my book.

Mind me asking why is not an option anymore?

Being a doctor is a good thing, but what U do rocks pretty hard. I mean, can U imagine a world without art? I wish U the best tho, because 20k a year in medical billing is Sicko.

Because some things are broken and can't be rebuilt. Ask Dick Butkus about his prognosis for better knees and you get the idea!
